How do I reference a journal article with no issue number or page number?

Answer

No issue number

For the APA referencing style, if the article you’re looking at is missing an issue number you remove that part from your reference, including the parentheses.

The template looks like this:

Author, A. (Year). Title of article. Title of Journal, volume, page range. DOI/URL

An example:

Xanthoudakis, A. (2020). Mobilizing minions: Fan activism efficacy of Misha Collins fans in "Supernatural" fandom. Transformative Works and Cultures, 32. https://doi.org/10.3983/twc.2020.1827

No page number

For the APA referencing style, if you have a journal article without page numbers, just leave that part of the reference out.

The template looks like this:

Author, A. (Year). Article title. Journal Title, volume (issue). DOI/URL

An example:

De Pergola, P. A. (2019). The bionic brain: Pragmatic neuroethics and the moral plausibility of cognitive enhancement. Online Journal of Health Ethics, 15(2). https://doi.org/10.18785/ojhe.1502.07
